I picked up the Pioneer DDJ-RB to learn Rekordbox, and it's been a great entry point. The build feels sturdy enough for home use, though it's lightweight and plastic. The 16 pads are responsive, and the effects – filter, flanger, delay – add spice without clutter. Jog wheels have a nice resistance, and the USB power means no extra wall wart. My main gripe: only 2 channels limit your mixing options if you plan to add turntables. The 3 line and 3 phono inputs are generous for the size, but the mic input is basic.
